Step-by-step help for books, theses, journals, rich Word paste, styling, proofreading, EPUB conversions and subscriptions.

Responsive local importing and continuous writing

  1. Choose Edit document to type, select across paragraphs, use Enter for a new paragraph and Backspace at its start to join it with the previous paragraph. The Edit step opens this continuous word-processing view automatically. Formatted preview is a separate view for final pagination, zoom, page management and master headers/footers. Changes are committed before switching views; both views use the same manuscript, notes and original files. The old separate Edit file popup is no longer needed from the preview toolbar.
  2. An animated skeleton shows the workspace structure while sign-in, the editor or your project library loads; it contains no manuscript text or account details. Reduced-motion preferences disable its shimmer. Paid subscriptions keep access until their paid-through date when renewal is cancelled; an unpaid checkout can be cancelled immediately because no billing cycle has started. Dashboard controls fit tablet windows from 600 px without horizontal scrolling. Cards, account menus, sign-in and pricing changes use short transitions; your device’s reduced-motion setting disables decorative movement. The public landing pages and sign-in/sign-up screens share the workspace’s warm backgrounds, clear teal controls and accessible focus states. Sign in from the header; the account form keeps Google and email access together, with a single-column layout on smaller screens. The light workspace uses the same visual family as Omega Reach and Omega Admin: a collapsible navigation rail, clearer project cards, a compact editor toolbar and consistent teal controls. Collapse navigation to make more room; on tablets it starts collapsed. Project search, local/cloud storage, version history and all formatting/export controls retain their existing behavior. Interface styling does not change manuscript typography or page measurements.
  3. Omega Reflection is an additional book style based on a supplied Word reference. It uses Corporate A body and Frutiger headings, retains measured source paragraph gaps, alignment, capitals, ornaments, quotation borders and mixed-size source runs. Body paragraphs follow Omega Standard at 11/15 pt: all body paragraphs are justified with the final line left aligned. The opening paragraph after a heading has no indent; following paragraphs have a 6 mm first-line indent and zero paragraph gaps. Text lines retain clear leading, quotations and centered passages use at least 1.4 line spacing, and centered stars have 12 pt before and 24 pt after. PDF draws a sharp vector four-point star if the font lacks that ornament. Existing themes and saved projects are unchanged. Choose page size separately, or use Apply reference page setup for US Letter with one-inch margins and no running headers or folios; font substitution can change line wrapping. Licensed fonts must be installed privately on the deployment for matching typefaces.
  4. By default Word conversion runs in a local browser worker where supported; manuscript text is not sent to a server for formatting. On a deployment with Python processing enabled, an optional checkbox before upload lets you send selected DOCX text, images and notes to the Folioword server for in-memory inspection and conversion. It does not create a cloud save. Server processing is off by default, requires sign-in, and falls back to browser processing if unavailable. Existing project formats and original Word retention are unchanged. Source files, note connections and import warnings remain available. Long Word imports index paragraph matches instead of repeatedly scanning earlier paragraphs; repeated text and existing contents entries retain their source order. A local compatibility path is used if background conversion cannot start.
  5. In Write, text and formatting update immediately and committed edits remain available to local and cloud saving. The hidden print preview is rebuilt when you choose Pages, Compare, Review or export, rather than after every typing pause. The page count belongs to the last completed print layout while writing. Page layout yields between small batches to keep progress and cancellation responsive; modern browsers use posted messages with regular timer breaks. Insertion targets also use indexed positions when moving elements through long manuscripts.
  6. Supported browsers also skip offscreen paragraph rendering while retaining the complete editable document. Word and PDF export libraries load only when requested. An initial export can briefly show preparation while those local libraries load. Final exports still use a complete measured layout, existing trial limits and current notes/styles.

Continuous writing, elements and chapter masters

  1. Before uploading Word chapters or articles, enter the Book, Thesis or Journal / article title. This title is used for the publication, saved project and exports. If left blank, the filename is used. Original Word filenames remain available in the chapter list.
  2. Choose Write in the preview header for continuous formatted text editing inside the workspace. Select across paragraphs, type, use Enter and Backspace, edit tables, insert images and notes, and use the formatting toolbar. Changes are committed after a short typing pause or before leaving the editor. Done writing or Pages returns to paginated design. The complete Edit file editor remains available. Save commits current text edits; cloud saving first updates the local saved project so both copies retain the same work.
  3. Drag elements from the left palette into Write or Pages. A line previews the insertion point above or below an element. In Write, use the grip beside a block to move text, images or tables. Drop insertion retains the selected chapter and note connections. Undo is available; chapter boundaries remain protected.
  4. Headers & footers in the preview header opens Masters in publication settings. Duplicate a reusable master, set left/right header/footer text and alignment, then assign it to individual chapters. Title pages retain their header/page-number rules. In Pages, double-click a visible header or footer to edit the book default; page-number text is kept separate. Use Chapter masters for chapter-specific changes.

Billing details and protected thesis text

  1. Billing is a full page inside the signed-in application, with current access, purchased subscription price and interval, paid-through dates and payment history. Upgrade or change plan expands inline. Complimentary accounts show Publisher access without payment; no paid checkout is offered. Returning to the workspace preserves the open manuscript.
  2. Thesis to book displays original references, numbers and emphasis as protected text within the editable draft. Internal preservation markers are hidden. Edit the surrounding words and approve each passage; deleting protected evidence blocks application until restored. Automatic drafting is offered only when an offline model is available in a local installation. The hosted website supports private manual adaptation without sending manuscript text to an external AI provider.

Owner-authorised complimentary access

  1. Complimentary accounts must sign in with Google to verify the authorised email address. After a newly authorised account is deployed, save open work and refresh the workspace to reload access. A server-configured allowlist takes precedence over the application defaults. They receive Publisher tools for Book, Thesis and Journal, complete exports and included EPUB conversion without a subscription payment. Cloud storage and project capacity retain the Publisher limits and host safety limits. This access never provides access to other customers’ manuscripts or billing administration.

Editing and formatting controls

  1. Click a paragraph to type. Use the single toolbar above the preview for paragraph style, font, size, emphasis and alignment. Type a complete size from 6–48 pt, then press Enter to apply immediately. A valid size also applies after a short typing pause or when you leave the field. The right panel contains paragraph spacing and page-flow settings, notes and publication-specific tools.
  2. Changing paragraph style applies the destination style instead of carrying an old paragraph font size or alignment into it. Original rich emphasis, citations, note references and page-flow flags remain protected.
  3. Switching steps commits the active paragraph first. If a protected note reference has been removed, restore it or Cancel before leaving that edit. Undo first records the current typed edit so the book history can restore it.
  4. Delete removes the selected words when a text range is selected, or the paragraph when the cursor is collapsed. Done accepts the edit; Cancel restores it.
  5. Buttons, step changes and outline/element switches use subtle Motion for React (Framer Motion) transitions. Reduced-motion preferences are respected; manuscript pages are not animated or remeasured for decoration.

Tablet navigation and quick editing

  1. On tablets up to 1200 pixels wide, the left panel starts collapsed. Open Outline to order chapters with up/down buttons, or Elements to insert items. The left panel is wider for long headings. Both panels have independent collapse controls: Outline toggles the left panel, and the panel icon beside the centred steps toggles the right settings. Closing either returns space to the preview. The steps stay on one line and scroll horizontally when needed.
  2. Click a paragraph in the preview to edit and choose its paragraph style in the toolbar. Drag a subheading left or right in Outline to change its level between H2 and H6. A level badge previews the result; release to apply its style without changing the wording. Alt + Left/Right provides keyboard access. Chapter titles stay separate. Backspace at the beginning of a body paragraph joins the previous paragraph in the same section; chapter boundaries remain protected.
  3. Contents defaults to chapter titles. Enable the subheading levels you need, search by heading text and check individual entries to build your own contents selection.
  4. Tours appear only inside the signed-in /app dashboard and editor, never on public landing, pricing or documentation pages. Book, Thesis and Journal have separate first-visit tours. Choose Skip tour at any point; use ? beside the steps to reopen it. Thesis to book shows three steps: choose a section, review its writing beside the source, then approve changes and apply the book layout. Writing preferences are optional.

Thesis, journal and citation tools

  1. In Edit → Publication tools, choose Prepare thesis & references or Prepare journal & references. Books also have Citations & references. All processing is local; these tools never search online for sources.
  2. Thesis details store institution, department, degree, supervisor and submission date. Preliminary pages can create a title page, abstract, declaration or acknowledgements without replacing existing author pages. Applying a generated thesis title page also applies its non-empty title and author to publication export metadata while keeping the project file name. Saving details alone does not change publication identity. Lists of figures and tables collect numbered captions without page numbers. Customise the title page in Book settings; other preliminary sections flow across pages as editable manuscript text. Use chapter masters and contents choices for academic numbering.
  3. Journal details store issue identity and separate metadata per article. Tools open on the selected manuscript article when available. Choose an article to apply byline, affiliation, ORCID, DOI, abstract, keywords, received/accepted dates and disclosures. Imported abstracts and keywords stay intact. Applying again replaces only tool-generated front matter; edits made to that generated front matter are replaced. Issue metadata is stored for reference; configure running headers manually.
  4. Reference library supports basic authored books and journal articles in APA 7 author–date or NLM numbered form. Enter family names and initials separated by semicolons; provide journal abbreviations for NLM yourself. Unsupported reference types and complex institutional requirements need manual review. Enter titles in sentence case; no source data is invented or fetched.
  5. Select a body paragraph in the preview before opening the tool. Insert citation adds it at the paragraph end. Generate / update references refreshes intact generated citation runs and replaces its own list; edited markers and imported citations remain author text. Review imported references for duplicates. Journals generate references for the selected article; other publications use the whole project. Include uncited sources only when wanted.
  6. Save details & close retains the local library and metadata. Partially bold or italic intact citations remain linked. Regenerating an unchanged label keeps its selective styling; a changed label uses the first segment’s formatting and shows a review message. Full-editor find/replace updates the remaining match count after saved edits and undo/redo. Text changes use the manuscript Undo history; metadata/library changes are saved separately. Existing version-one projects remain compatible. PDF, Word ZIP and EPUB contain generated text and emphasis; editable citation links are retained in Folio project saves, not reconstructed when reimporting exported Word files.

1. Sign in and open your dashboard

  1. Open Folioword in a tablet or desktop browser. Mobile phones show the device notice.
  2. Sign in with Google or email. Successful sign-in opens your project dashboard.
  3. Choose Create publication. Existing local and cloud projects are listed separately. Open the account menu for Billing & subscription and Log out. On the first visit, Quick tour opens automatically and highlights the actual controls; click a highlighted control to try it and advance, or use Next.

2. Choose Book, Thesis or Journal

  1. Book: Chapter openings and continuous text; Title, copyright, dedication and contents; Front/back covers and publisher logo; Subject and author indexes.
  2. Thesis: Academic chapters and numbered headings; Abstract, acknowledgements and research sections; Citations, bibliography and connected notes; A4 academic page setup and thesis-to-book review.
  3. Journal: Separate articles and author bylines; Abstracts, keywords and references; Figures, tables and chart tools; Article ordering and running headers.

3. Add one chapter or article at a time

  1. Upload one or more Word DOCX files. Each file must contain one chapter or article. Detected multi-chapter files are refused; split them in Word first. Select up to 20 files, 10 MB each and 100 MB per batch.
  2. New content is uploaded as Word DOCX only. There is no paste-to-create or paste-chapter option. Ordinary text editing inside an existing manuscript remains available.
  3. DOCX import retains supported headings, emphasis, lists, tables, images and connected notes. Review inferred styles and page layout after import; browser pagination can differ from Word.
  4. Use Chapters (Articles for journals) → Add / combine files for more files. The chapter list shows source names; drag to reorder. Your book is retained if any file in an upload batch fails.

4. Choose or customise a style

  1. Browse Templates by Book, Thesis or Journal. Each style has a distinct sample. Choose Use & customise or Create a custom style; sign-in opens the dashboard and Create publication retains that choice.
  2. The Style step offers themes appropriate to the publication. Use Customise this project’s styles to edit body, headings, notes, fonts, sizes, indents, spacing and colours. Saved projects retain their styles.
  3. Page size is independent: open Book settings → Page to choose trim size, custom dimensions and margins. Check the preview after changing fonts or size.
  4. Publish with Omega requires Omega Standard. This requirement does not submit a manuscript or buy publishing services.

Omega reference styles

  1. Omega Standard remains the existing house style. Omega Academic uses Times New Roman 11/15 pt, Heuristica chapter titles, number-only chapter labels and compact paragraphs. Omega Reading uses Corporate A 11/15 pt, Frutiger headings, consistent CHAPTER labels and 5.67 pt paragraph gaps. Choose sizes and margins separately. The optional Apply reference page setup button uses 155 × 230 mm for Academic or 140 × 210 mm for Reading, with 18 mm sides, 24 mm top, 18 mm bottom, alternating running-head folios and right-hand chapter starts. Theme selection alone keeps your current dimensions.
  2. New styles use sequential displayed chapter and part numbers, with consistent label casing, without replacing source manuscript wording. Parts are separate divider pages; use right-hand chapter starts in page settings when blank facing pages are required. Contents are rebuilt from the final layout, never copied from old printed page references.
  3. Omega Reading adds drop capitals only to opening body paragraphs, including preliminary openings; continued paragraphs do not repeat them. In Customize all paragraph styles choose Body text to switch drop capitals off. This setting is saved with the project.
  4. Part label and Part title are independently customisable in the style editor. Callout boxes can occupy their own block or wrap text on the left/right. Reading boxes use a full border; lists stay compact and figures/tables keep surrounding space.
  5. Exact typography requires the correct licensed fonts to be installed privately. Heuristica is available locally. The Adorn Serif title face is unavailable here and uses a disclosed Source Serif 4 fallback; hosted installations may use other bundled fallbacks. Reflowable EPUB uses reader fonts when reference fonts are unavailable, so line breaks can differ.

5. Edit, compare and proofread

  1. Elements and Compare sit to the left of the step bar. Elements opens a sliding left palette. The preview is centered and the single settings inspector stays right; publication/page settings is at the right of the step bar. Drag elements above or below page content. Select or double-click text to edit; use Edit file for the full manuscript.
  2. Edit contains publication-specific tools and footnote/endnote conversion. References remain connected when changing note placement. Run spelling only when you choose Check spelling; review suggested corrections.
  3. Use Compare beside Elements or in the left quick toolbar to open unstyled original text beside the actual current styled preview, including corrections, headers and page numbers. Use the separate source and preview page controls. Choose a chapter and optionally Changed text only. Highlighting compares wording; original Word pagination is not reproduced. Older projects need a source reimport if no original snapshot was saved.
  4. Designer and Publisher add charts, custom chapter masters and fixed EPUB. All role plans include core editing and custom paragraph styles. Previously purchased subscription inclusions are preserved.
  5. For private proofreading, save a cloud version and assign the exact email of a Folioword account. The reviewer suggests changes; only the owner accepts them into a new cloud version. No automatic email is sent.

6. Prepare pages and covers

  1. For a book, review title, copyright, dedication, contents, chapters and back matter. New contents pages start with chapter titles only. In Chapters → Automatic book setup → Choose table of contents entries, enable Subheading 1, Subheading 2 or further levels and choose individual entries; preliminary titles are optional. Explicit Word heading styles take priority; inferred font-size and numbering hierarchy needs review. Confirm all generated metadata instead of accepting placeholders. Recognised preliminary signatures retain source left/right alignment and source spacing, with a bold name and a gap above it. Tables and notes default to left alignment; subheads are left aligned and heading text is not hyphenated. Lists and quotations have space around their group without gaps between consecutive items.
  2. Thesis tools provide academic preliminary pages; journal tools focus on author bylines, abstracts, keywords, tables and article order. Source wording is never automatically rewritten as an accepted correction.
  3. In Cover, upload your finished front and back cover images (PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 8 MB). Custom cover editing is paused. Existing cover designs remain saved and exportable; replacing a cover can be undone. Publisher logos can still be placed on the full title page.

7. Export PDF, Word ZIP or EPUB

  1. PDF uses the preview page size. Optional print settings include bleed, crop marks, colour mode and two-up pages. Generic CMYK conversion is not a certified printer-profile workflow.
  2. Word ZIP can include the complete publication and separate chapter DOCX files. Word may repaginate. Keep the editable project backup as well.
  3. All export formats, including reflowable and fixed-layout EPUB, are included without an extra conversion charge. Trial exports retain the seven-day, ten-page limit.
  4. Open Billing to see current access, verified purchased plans, renewal dates and payment history. Upgrade or change plan expands comparison on the same billing page; it never opens a plan popup. Existing manuscripts stay open when returning to the workspace.
  5. Choose reflowable EPUB for adaptable text. Fixed EPUB preserves page dimensions as images and is included with publication export access.
  6. Trial/subscription access is checked for every publication export. The seven-day trial exports publications of ten pages or fewer. Longer manuscripts are kept in full for editing, but publication exports are locked until upgrade. Local project backups remain available. Trial status and quick manuscript tools are in the left rail.

8. Understand roles and subscriptions

  1. Author: ₹400/month or ₹4,200/year. Book, Thesis and Journal formatting; 5 active cloud projects; 1 private proofreader per project; PDF, Word ZIP and editable custom styles; Reflowable and fixed EPUB exports included; Covers, notes, styles and local backups.
  2. Designer: ₹1,000/month or ₹10,500/year. Everything in Author; 20 active cloud projects; 3 private proofreaders per project; Charts and custom chapter masters; Reflowable and fixed EPUB exports included; Manage multiple client publications.
  3. Publisher: ₹2,400/month or ₹25,200/year. All design and production tools; 50 active cloud projects; 10 private proofreaders per project; Owner-approved proofreading corrections; Private version history and publishing styles; Advanced design tools and fixed EPUB; Reflowable and fixed EPUB exports included.
  4. Monthly prices are 20% below the list price; annual prices are 30% below twelve list-price months. Savings are not stacked. Changes to a subscription start next billing cycle. Cancel renewal to retain access through the verified paid period.

9. Save privately and keep backups

  1. Click the project name beside the logo to rename it and press the checkmark to save on this device. Save on this device retains the project in the current browser. Dashboard renames are also reflected when the project reopens. In the editor, logout saves current work before signing out; a failed save keeps you signed in. Refreshing restores the saved project and editing step in this tab; the logo keeps you in place. My projects explicitly opens the dashboard. Accounts log out after eight hours without interaction; background polling does not renew the session. Browser storage can be cleared, so download a project ZIP before changing devices.
  2. Cloud saving is explicit and private. It includes current content, originals for comparison, images, notes and design. Cloud versions allow 10 MB compressed and 40 MB expanded, with 100 MB current account storage.
  3. Persistent server storage preserves accounts and cloud ownership across deployments. The native desktop app is paused; use the browser application.

10. Resolve common problems

  1. Clipped selection text: refresh after deployment. Controls use a readable minimum height; report the browser and a screenshot with private text removed if clipping remains.
  2. Wrong publication workspace: choose the Book, Thesis or Journal card on the dashboard. Your clicked choice takes priority over an older format in the address bar. Each format has its own labels, style choices and editing tools.
  3. Workspace opening takes longer: after twelve seconds, Open my project library lets you bypass automatic project reopening without deleting saved projects. Long paragraphs are checked in small growing sections to avoid repeatedly laying out all remaining text.
  4. Publishing workspace: Outline on the left navigates source headings; Insert opens elements in that same panel. The centre stays available for the book preview and the right panel shows the current step settings. Design and Edit file share the same manuscript; save and close Edit file to apply edits to the preview.
  5. Word import report: open Chapters (Articles for journals). Each new Word import includes a conversion inventory and warnings for unsupported equations, tracked changes, merged cells, fields, comments and embedded objects. Counts are not proof of visual equivalence. Older projects without a report continue to open. Keep the original DOCX separately; parsed source snapshots do not replace an untouched Word file.
  6. The dashboard includes a private library overview, Continue editing for the most recently updated project, and Grid/List views. Counts belong to the selected device or cloud library. Loading and failed libraries do not imply that saved projects were deleted.
  7. New Word uploads are retained unchanged in separate account-scoped browser storage, with a 10 MB file limit and 100 MB total limit. Compare → Original Word files on this device downloads or explicitly removes retained copies, including uploads no longer linked to the current project. Removal preserves manuscript text and comparison snapshots. Retained binaries are not included in cloud saves/project ZIPs and disappear if browser storage is cleared. Keep an external backup; storage failures show a warning without rejecting an otherwise valid import.
  8. Cover tools include endorsements, back-cover blurbs, publisher/edition text, duplicate layers and image replacement that preserves the selected frame. Alignment guides show a 5% text safety region. Run Publication preflight in Edit or Export for source metadata, heading, note, image-description and cover-boundary checks; results become stale after changes.
  9. Print cover wrap combines your front and back covers with a printer-specified spine width. Choose bleed and crop/fold marks; export is subject to the existing PDF access rules. It uses 300 dpi artwork, edge-extended bleed, PDF TrimBox/BleedBox and optional generic CMYK conversion. Confirm exact spine, paper stock and printer ICC requirements; this is not a printer certification.
  10. Thesis → Book has its own publication choice on upload. It imports into the thesis workspace for editorial review; choose Apply book layout to reviewed manuscript when ready. Switching the upload choice selects the matching workflow. Format links do not automatically open sign-in, and reaching a trial limit does not open a plans popup. Sign-in and plan management remain available on request; publication export limits still apply.
  11. Long publications: layout runs in short cooperative steps and prepares a separate preview before replacing the last completed pages. A new edit replaces older pending layout work. Cancel layout pauses preview work without undoing manuscript edits; use Update preview to continue. The last completed preview remains visible and its text tools wait for the new layout. Your editable manuscript and local project saves remain available.
  12. The preview renders nearby pages while skipping offscreen rendering. Go to page, chapter navigation, comparison and Edit file reveal the required page. The complete document structure remains in memory; this reduces rendering work rather than removing source text. Export temporarily renders all pages. PDF uses an isolated measured snapshot so subsequent editing cannot change an export already in progress.
  13. Long chapters can also retain completed earlier pages when an edit follows a safe whole-paragraph page boundary. The app restarts earlier if the paragraph that created that boundary changes, so shorter text can move back onto the previous page. It never resumes in the middle of a paragraph, table, floating box or keep group. This cache is temporary and is not stored in your project.
  14. Earlier chapters may be retained after a later edit. Changes to headings, notes, fonts, page settings or indexes request a full layout. Text, emphasis and connected notes are preserved across pages, and untouched headings keep their formatting through Edit file. Layout caches and temporary measurements are never saved into a project. Word reading, images, complex tables and font loading can still take time; cancel controls pause the layout stage, not Word parsing. Keep a project backup before major design changes.
  15. Publishing services: Folio Auto, Assured and Experts are currently described as in development. The dashboard cannot place service orders, create quotations or charge for these services yet. Existing subscriptions and export rules are unchanged.
  16. Upload takes longer: keep the tab open. Dense tables and images take longer than simple text. No intentional delay is added; short imports do not flash the progress dialog.
  17. EPUB exports never require a separate payment. If a trial has expired or a publication exceeds ten pages, open Billing for access details.
  18. For help, email info@omegabookworld.com. Never share passwords, API keys, full environment files or confidential manuscripts in a support screenshot.
